The aim of this website is to raise awareness of the Associations purpose and values, and to keep you abreast of events in and around Kathikas. Our meetings usually take place on the last Tuesday of each month, at 10:00am in the Community Centre.
Everyone is welcome whether you live in Kathikas or not, however membership is restricted to those who live in the village or surrounding agricultural area. This website has been constructed to enable the Kathikas Residents Association to communicate with its members, and anyone interested in Kathikas, its aim is to be informative, interesting and a bit of fun. This has been made possible thanks to our sponsors, local businesses, whose adverts are on the sponsor page, please consider these people if you need the services they provide. If you wish to sponsor the site the cost is a nominal €10 per annum. The site will endeavor to assist people who live in the village by displaying information that has taken a while to accumulate, to that end all contributions of tips, advice, comments and photographs will be appreciated, just click here to e-mail us. Also use this means if you have any items for the monthly meeting agenda. The site will also promote Kathikas to encourage people to visit the village and experience its charms, personality and especially the people. |

SNAKES !!
Rural Cyprus is one of the most beautiful places anyone could choose to live, and Kathikas is one of the jewels in the Cypriot crown. It is a beautiful, traditional village and has welcoming and supportive local people, seven excellent Tavernas and a thriving Residents Association.
Like most of Cyprus, it also has the odd snake! Well, perhaps a few more than that! Although I have lived here for the past six years, I have actually seen very few. I know they are there though, lurking in the undergrowth, waiting for me to walk past in all innocence, ready to pounce and bite me, thus hastening my demise! At least that was my misconception. And as you will see below, I am not alone with my fascination and fear of these reptiles:-
Never wound a snake; kill it. Harriet Tubman
Always carry a flagon of whiskey in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake. W. C. Fields
Even if a snake is not poisonous, it should pretend to be venomous. Chanakya
If you see a snake, just kill it - don't appoint a committee on snakes. Ross Perot
One of my friends is Snake from Skid Row. Steve Brown
One of the objectives of the Residents Association is to arrange guest speakers from time to time, and on Tuesday 29th of June we were fortunate to secure the services of ‘Snake George’. Gosh, what an excellent speaker he turned out to be, entertaining, informative, full of experiential learning and academic study. He discounted a few myths, and explained how we should behave it we accidentally come across a snake. He explained how they live, what their needs are and how those needs do not have to conflict with ours. George is very willing to speak to any groups, and I would thoroughly recommend him.
George himself was impressed with our Village Mayor for supporting us with our organization and with welcoming visitors as speakers. I guess here I should apologize here to our Mayor who, perhaps, I have taken for granted. He has always supported us and always attends our monthly meetings, as I had expected, but obviously not all Village Mayors are of a similar ilk. So take note Village Mayors, model yourselves on the Kathikas Village Mayor, and you will go far!
If you are interested in our Association and would like to come along to our meetings, you would be very welcome. We meet usually, on the last Tuesday of each month at 10am at the Community Centre in the Village (opposite the Church). For further details, please ring Sandra on 99122630
If you are interested in speaking with George, ring 99987685, or visit his website:- www.snakegeorge.com I know you will receive a warm welcome.
